The Virginia War Memorial is pleased to announce the inaugural World War II Roundtable Seminar for selected high school students in Central Virginia on Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Due to construction at our location, this event will be held in the Virginia Housing Development Authority office building adjacent to the Memorial. Parking is available in front of VHDA.
Listed below is a schedule of events. We are excited to welcome nationally known author, David L. Robbins, as our Guest Speaker who will provide new insights through his recently released book, Broken Jewel, memorably addresses the Japanese treatment of civilian prisoners in the Pacific during the war. Mr. Robbins will be signing his books after his presentation. Our Roundtable discussions with heroic veterans in the afternoon will be moderated by CBS6 morning anchor, Greg McQuade. These personal stories of sacrifice and courage will be inspiring for all participants.
Please join us by selecting two deserving students and a teacher to participate in our WW II Roundtable Seminar. Registration Form that should be completed and returned no later than March 10, 2010. Complimentary box lunches will be provided. Please call or email Candice Shelton, Education Specialist if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you on March 24th.⊕ All participants are expected to remain until the conclusion of the seminar. Appropriate attire requested (no jeans).

10:05 - 11:05 a.m. … Guest Speaker – nationally known author, David L. Robbins
11:05 - 11:15 a.m. … Break – book signing
11:15 - 12:00 a.m. … Virginians at War award-winning film segment – POWs in the Pacific
12:00 noon - 12:45 p.m. … Complimentary box lunch – please visit the Shrine of Memory as well
12:45 - 1:45 p.m. … Roundtable Discussions moderated by CBS6 morning anchor, Greg McQuade
1:45 - 2:00 p.m. … Final remarks by Jon C. Hatfield, Executive Director, Virginia War Memorial Foundation Evaluation
2:00 p.m. … Depart to return to school
