The Virginia War Memorial is pleased to announce the fourth annual “Pearl Harbor - We Were There” Seminar for selected high school juniors in Central Virginia on Friday, December 5, 2008. We understand that making history “come alive” is critically important to our youth today - making connections, making history relevant - a task that is sometimes difficult. We will endeavor to achieve these goals through a special day spent with those who were most affected by this history-changing event - Pearl Harbor Survivors.
Below is a schedule of events. We feel that the experience of one-on-one conversations with our heroic survivors will provide new insights and a greater appreciation for the sacrifices these men and women endured to guarantee our freedom today. Because of the average age of these survivors, we do not anticipate conducting many more seminars on this topic.
Please join us by selecting two deserving juniors and a teacher to participate in our Pearl Harbor Seminar. Enclosed is a Registration Form that should be completed and returned no later than November 21, 2008.,Complimentary box lunches will be provided. In the meantime, please call if you have any questions.
⊕ All participants are expected to remain until the conclusion of the seminar. Appropriate attire requested (no jeans).

11:10 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. … Virginians at War award-winning film segment – “Pearl Harbor” – Jon C. Hatfield, Executive Director
11:45 a.m. - 12:00 noon … Proceed to the Shrine of Memory for wreath laying ceremony
12:00 noon - 12:30 p.m. … Complimentary box lunch in the Hall of Honor Auditorium
12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. … Conversations with Pearl Harbor survivors
1:45 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. … Final remarks by Mr. Hatfield and Evaluation of program by students
2:00 p.m. … Depart to return to school
