
Victory In Eurpoe Tour (April 7-16, 2009)Join friends of the Virginia War Memorial as they travel to England and France to honor the "greatest generation" of World War II. This ten day journey will start in London at Winston Churchill's War Cabinet Rooms, proceed through England to Portsmouth and across the English Channel, spend several days in and around Normandy, and conclude with a tour of Paris. Day 1. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 Overnight FlightDepart for Europe. Day 2. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 (London)Arrive in London and meet your tour manager. Start exploring this cosmopolitan capital before enjoying a welcome reception and dinner. Please note: dinners are only included where noted. (D) Day 3. Thursday, April 9, 2009 (London)A morning sightseeing tour with a local guide shows you London past and present, from the Houses of Parliament to Trafalgar Square. A visit to Westminster, an enduring symbol of the city, is included. Entrances to the Cabinet War Rooms and the Imperial War Museum are included while in London. Enjoy dinner this evening. (B,D) Day 4. Friday, April 10, 2009 (London)After breakfast, make your way to Duxford for entrances to the American Air Museum. Enjoy a late lunch at Eagle Pub in Cambridge. Stop at the Cambridge Cemetery before returning to London for the night. (B,L) Day 5. Saturday, April 11, 2009 (Caen)Take a short drive to the seaside town of Portsmouth. Visit General Eisenhower's headquarters, a Royal Navy Base, as well as the British D-Day Museum. Next, board the ferry to France. After dinner on the ferry, drive to Caen for a night's rest. (B,D) Day 6. Sunday, April 12, 2009 (Caen)Relive the heroism displayed in the 1944 liberation of France at the Peace Museum. Continue on for a view of Pont du Hoc and Omaha Beach. Enjoy lunch at John Steele Cafe in St. Mere Eglise before returning to Caen for a free evening. (B, L) Day 7. Monday, April 13, 2009 (Caen)Today visit more of the D-Day Beaches and Arromanches. Next stop at the American Cemetery where your group will lay a wreath in honor of all Virginians who are buried there. If time permits, stop at the new Normandy Visitors Center. Dinner in Caen. (B,D) Day 8. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 (Paris)Travel to Paris this morning, visiting the Pegasus Bridge en route. Enjoy time to take in Parisian café society or explore at your leisure this afternoon. Relax at dinner this evening. (B,D) Day 9. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 (Paris)A local guide shows you the most famous monuments of the City of Light from Notre Dame to the Arc de Triomphe.
